6. Compliance with U.S. and California Law
We are committed to complying with federal and state laws protecting student data. This includes:
FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
We handle all student data as part of a student's "education record" in compliance with FERPA. This means we provide parents and schools with access to review, amend, or delete data and will not disclose personally identifiable information (PII) without consent, except as permitted by law.
COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act)
Our services are not directed to children under 13. To use Homework Habit™, users must be 13 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected such information, we will delete it.
SOPIPA (Student Online Personal Information Protection Act - California)
As a service designed for K-12 school purposes in California, we adhere strictly to SOPIPA. This means we will not: sell student data; use it for targeted advertising; or create student profiles for non-educational purposes. All data use is solely for the educational purpose of the Services.
CCPA/CPRA (California Consumer Privacy Act/Privacy Rights Act)
These laws provide California residents with rights regarding their personal information. We uphold these rights by allowing users (or their parents) to access, correct, and delete their data, as detailed in the section below.

We believe in control and transparency:

- Student Access: Students may request to see what data is stored about them.
- Opt-Outs: Users may disable reminders, alarms, peer data features, or weekly reports at any time.
- Data Deletion: You may request full deletion of your account and associated data.
